my work

The pieces displayed here, while not for sale, are displayed as a demonstration of my wide range of style and voice. I would love the opportunity to converse with you, to learn about what's important to you, and find a way to capture it and make it real. 2009 ceramic pieces

One of my greatest urges is for my ceramics work to be as visually pleasing as it is functional. The majority of the 2009 work is inspired by the people in my life. I created the animal-themed work for my nephew because I couldn't imagine him eating out of plain dinnerware. I wanted the work to be bright, colorful, and pique his interest. The vases are an exploration of a floral theme using rich, vivid glazes.

This body of work explores my interest in carving on the surface of clay using patterns inspired by drawing and printmaking. Much of the work is traditionally functional while others are more abstract or sculpturally based.

The work shown below is mainly created using Earthenware clay. I enjoy the rich reds that Earthenware clay can produce. The sculptural clay pieces I carved and shaped to create highlight and shadow areas within the natural clay surface. I applied slip to the more functional work and then carved designs into the surfaces to reveal the natural clay color below.

The surface designs and carvings on this work are based on studying ceramics in China for six weeks. I embraced their love and respect for nature and traditional Chinese motifs.

This work is more of my sculptural ceramics. The inspiration for this work comes from people I know as well as those I have yet to meet. The pieces range in size from 1” tall to 8’ tall. Each one was made by hand, and is completely unique. However, seen as a group, you may start to notice similarities, common traits that create visual connections. With each installation, the groupings and patterns created throughout the work change.

This body of work is an exploration of mixed media artwork. I enjoy the visual flow of the individual materials used to create a cohesive whole piece of art. My passion is to create with my hands. My hope is that my interests and inspirations resonate throughout all the work I create.
